Lesson Two A: Sales Funnel

by CherylCurrie

Let’s start with an overview of what is called a “sales funnel” so you can get all the basics first.  I  strongly suggest that you go through the whole video at least once before reading the rest of the page.  If you prefer to read about it or need a later reference, there is a downloadable ebook further down this page.

What Is a Capture Page and Why Do I Need It?

A capture page is a page with a form on it asking for a person’s name and contact information.  It is designed to establish if what you are offering is what the person wants.  According to statistics, the person looking at your capture page makes his or her decision in two seconds or less.  If that person decides they want more information, they will fill in the form to see more information.  A capture page takes that contact information and puts it on a mailing list.  Those who own that list now have the name and contact information of someone who was interested enough to fill out the form.

This is how you build your leads list.  It’s where your ads send people to.  Once they fill in that form, you have them on YOUR list (providing you set things up this way).  When they click submit, they are directed to your “landing page.”

You can create a “Capture Page” with only your domain name, hosting, and any program that allows both visual and html version of the document.  You can download a free HTML editor and make changes to any existing banner, page or ad.  You can turn a blog page, fan page or a single web page into a capture page as long as you hook it up with a opt-in form connected to an auto-responder.

If you are a network marketer, your company probably supplies a capture page or should.  If you are on one of my teams, you are most definitely supplied with banners, ads, capture pages and more.

The whole purpose of all these tools is to drive traffic to an “opt in form” or “web form” to capture the name and email address of a potential customer.

“Whoa, Cheryl, you’ve lost me!  What are all those terms?”

Opt-in Form: Any form that requires a name and contact information in order to access another page.  On this site, the form to the right with the big red arrow is an opt-in form.

Landing Page: Where the person is directed to when they click on the button on the Opt-in Form.  The page they “land” after filling out the form.

Domain:  The plain website address of a site meaning the straight minus anything in front of it or after it.  The domain name for my blog is cherylcurrie.com

Hosting:  The permission to have your domain on the internet.  An analogy might be a landlord.

HTML:  The language that tells the computer what to show and how to show it.  An HTML editor shows what something looks like and the computer language for it on another page.

Fan Page:  Facebook has a profile page but it also has other pages that you can use that associate with you.  Those pages can be set up very much like a capture page and used for business.

“Why would this be important to me?”

Because a lot of people starting out new, spend too much time and money trying to make the perfect website.  Later, they suddenly and sadly realize that no one is going to see their website unless they start getting some leads and traffic that they can send to it.  Some decide to use a replicated website provided by the company they are affiliates of or distributors for.  Problem is, hundreds or even thousands of other people are using it as well.  What’s worse is that those company websites do not capture leads into your own mailing list.

End result you want:

FULL CONTROL OVER YOUR CUSTOMER LIST.

What is a Marketing Campaign?

A marketing campaign is a strategy for moving a service or product from the supplier to the consumer. The internet makes it possible to do business internationally, on automatic. This impersonal way of doing business has advantages and disadvantages. It can be so impersonal that the business never gets off the ground. It also opens the door for unscrupulous people to launch scams.  But on the plus side, the rapid communication and instant delivery features allow a true business to market internationally.  What makes the difference for the business person and the customer is the email campaign feature.

ICANN and the FTC have regulations that set apart the scams from the true business.  If you are a true business, you want to set up a series of communications that are sent out by a reputable company such as Aweber.  In your emails, you need to provide links and other references to your potential customers which allow them to check you out.

So what you need to learn next is setting up an email campaign on an “autoresponder” and that would be in …
